There’s nothing quite like strolling through a farmers market with all the brightly colored fruits and vegetables, beautiful flowers, fresh-baked bread, and all sorts of local treasures — it’s truly a great way to start your day! In fact, a visit to Grand Haven, Michigan would not be complete without a venture under the green canopy at Chinook Pier where the Grand Haven Farmers Market is held every Saturday from now through June, and every Wednesday and Saturday from June through October.

Here’s everything you need to know before you go:

What Can You Expect to Find at the Farmers Market in Grand Haven?

Tips for Your Trip to the Grand Haven Farmers Market

  • Time it right – As they say, timing is everything! The Grand Haven Farmers Market is open from 8 am until 1 pm. Like most farmers markets, arriving early often means there will be fewer crowds and a greater selection. However, if you come later, especially right before closing time, you might be able to get better prices on what is left.
  • Carry cash – While some vendors may accept checks or credit cards, most often cash is preferred or required, so plan on bringing coins and small bills along.
  • Bring your own bags – Many vendors will have bags or other containers, but it never hurts to have your own at the ready. Bonus: you’ll not only be supporting local farmers and merchants but helping the environment too!
  • Keep your cool – It’s a good idea to have a cooler handy in the car to transport items like cheese and eggs on your trip home.
  • Talk to vendors – Asking questions is encouraged to find out where and how produce is grown —  you might even learn ways in which to cook it. Oh, and it’s always good to try before you buy so be sure to ask if free samples are available.
  • Shop around – Instead of buying from the very first vendor you come across, take an initial walk-through first to see all your options and compare prices.
  • Have a plan (sort of) – Knowing what meals you are shopping for and what items you need will make it less overwhelming and keep you from overspending. On the other hand, it’s good to allow yourself some wiggle room for unexpected finds and new things you’d like to try.
