There’s nothing quite like a West Michigan sunset, and with miles and miles of shoreline, there are plenty of places that offer a front row seat for watching the spectacular displays over the lake. But for those romantics out there, a spot that offers a little less population and a lot more privacy than your typical public beach is probably more of what you had in mind, right? Well, have we got some ideas for you!

If you’re looking for the perfect place for a perfect date, you’re celebrating an anniversary, or you simply want to inject some romance into your relationship, check out these cozy ways for couples to take in a Lake Michigan sunset and all its splendor. (You can thank us later!)

1. Climb Aboard a Boat to See the Sunset on Lake Michigan

People flock to the boardwalks, piers, and lighthouses that line the lakeshore to take in a sunset view, but you can wave to all the sightseers as you pass them by on a boat, leaving the crowd behind!

There are lots of boat rental places around here, and what better way to see the sunset on Lake Michigan than to actually be on Lake Michigan?  You and your first mate can cast off, head toward the horizon, toss out your anchor, then snuggle up for the show. It doesn’t get much more romantic than that!

2. Watch the Sunset on Lake Michigan from a Window Seat

Make reservations at a romantic restaurant where you can order a special dinner, and stick around for a beautiful sunset! Reserve an outside table or one inside with a view at a place like Notos on the beach in Grand Haven or Boatwerks Waterfront Restaurant in Holland. You can watch the sunset together while you propose a toast to your love — or perhaps just plain propose! (hint, hint).

3.  Take in the Sunset on Lake Michigan Atop a Dune

Spread a blanket with your significant other at the top of one of West Michigan’s majestic dunes and you’ll enjoy a panoramic view that’ll take your breath away! Here are just a few places with prime sunset perches that are well worth the climb:

4. Enjoy a Lake Michigan Sunset from a Hidden Gem

There are parks o’ plenty in this area, but some may be lesser known (and thus have fewer visitors!) than others. Doing a little investigative work could certainly prove to help you find the perfect place for a romantic sunset viewing. Pssst…One great example of such a secluded spot is the hidden gem known as Laketown Park between Holland and Saugatuck (shhh… it’ll be our little secret).

5. Cozy Up in a Cottage with a Lake Michigan Sunset View

How would you like to watch a stunning Lake Michigan sunset from your porch? If you romanticize about seeing as many iconic West Michigan sunsets as you can, consider renting a cottage or better yet, buying a permanent place!
