The West Michigan lakeshore is known for its sunsets, but what happens once the sun goes down? Well actually, plenty! Even small beach towns like Grand Haven are big on fun well into the night!

If you’re planning a visit and wondering about the nightlife in GH, this quiet town has some surprises in store for you! Check out this list of fun things to do in Grand Haven after the sun sets for the day and the stars come out at night:

Here’s to Grand Haven Bars!

There are a handful of bars and lounges to visit in town that stay open after the sun goes down. Stop by or start a pub crawl at any of the places below and you’ll not only get to sip some cold local brew, but also enjoy some great local grub, and even listen to live local music! Hey, when in Grand Haven, why not do as the locals do?

Grand Armory Brewing

Inside this craft brewery, located in a 113-year old historic building in downtown Grand Haven, you’ll find a taproom offering a variety of ales, ciders, mead, wine, and even craft root beer. There’s also a finger-licking, lip smacking good BBQ place on site called Dr. Rolf’s. And as if that’s not enough, there’s room to groove to live music. Grand Armory has it all!

Odd Side Ales

Odd Side is always hopping, and with plenty of drink options and space inside and out, it’s easy to see why! This local favorite offers craft choices spanning cocktails, beer, hard seltzers, ciders, and wine. Bonus: You can order from several different local eateries and have it delivered right to your table!

Long Road Distillers

Supporting the natural and agricultural resources of West Michigan, Long Road crafts a lineup of spirits and cocktails using locally produced ingredients from across the region. Pair your favorite concoction with a delicious, locally-grown, farm-fresh meal and you’ll be good to go! Of course, before you do, make sure you take some spirits or a cocktail kit with you!

The Kirby House

A Grand Haven mainstay, Kirby is located on the corner of Harbor Drive (Jackson) and the main strip (Washington), a site with a rich history and a view of the channel to boot! The building offers several different options, from a grill room and an upstairs with tons of giant bar games to a rooftop pizza place and the main floor bar and eatery where live music plays! No matter where you choose, though, you can expect to enjoy great food and drinks, and a whole lot of fun.

Tip-a-Few

The bar that’s probably open the latest around town is the Tip-a-Few, a small, unassuming place famous for their burritos and strong, well drinks, along with all sorts of beer choices and TVs to take in some sports with friends. It can get crowded since it’s so well-liked, but that just adds to the Tip’s small-town charm! Cheers!

Stanz

On the east side of Grand Haven you’ll find a place that, although it’s known for its awesome breakfasts, opens back up for dinner and beyond! Located right next door to a local meat market with the same owner, you better believe Stanz offers up some fresh and delicious meals! And if you’re thirsty, great! Stanz has all sorts of specialty drinks, wines, craft brews and more.

Burzurk Brewing Company

Also on the east side of town is Burzurk, a brewery with a long list of hand-crafted beer on tap, as well as hard seltzers, and ciders made right on site. You can sit and enjoy a cold one (or two or three) and take advantage of their featured food truck parked right outside.

Beyond Grand Haven Bars

Wineries

If wine or wine-tasting is your thing, Grand Haven offers two wineries where you can tip your glass after the moon changes places with the sun:

  • 12 Corners – located in the same building, just down from Odd Side Ales is a tasting room with a variety of award-winning wine. Find one you like and take a bottle home!
  • Lemon Creek Winery – Lemon Creek is known for making some of the finest Michigan wines for over 35 years, capturing hundreds of national and international awards. Come have a taste for yourself!

Music

Grand Haven is home to the infamous Musical Fountain that puts on a nightly seasonal show. Set up a chair or blanket at the Waterfront Stadium and listen to the music while you watch the waters dance to the tune.

Just over the bridge is a live music venue called 7 steps up located in an historical building on Jackson Street in Spring Lake. Here you can take in a variety of concerts and artists performing live, so check their schedule and snag some tickets for a great night of music you won’t forget!

Escapes

Sometimes you just want to get away from it all, right? Well you can escape the hustle and bustle of a busy day by simply taking a stroll down Grand Haven’s fully-lit boardwalk and pier at night.

Of course, if you truly want to escape, then a visit to Grand Haven’s Escape Room is definitely in order! Open late to groups wanting to use their noggins and have some fun, this place offers several different challenging rooms to figure your way out of once the sun goes down.
