If you don’t know where you want to go then I guess any path you take will suit you, but once you get wherever it is that you are going you can’t be angry that it’s not where you wanted to end up, can you? Where do you want to be? When I work with clients to help them build their dream home or find the perfect property we talk a lot about life stages, what happens 5, 10, 15 years out? How is the home that we are building going to suit the plans that you have for the future?
We should approach building a life in the same way, what do we want in 5, 10 or 15 years? What goals and aspirations do you want to accomplish? This is only way that we have an opportunity to work backwards from our plans and put into action the steps that will help us to accomplish them. A wise friend of mine said to me once “Choose or you have chosen” and she is right. If we are not intentional about what we think and what we do, picking each next step there is no way that we can end up where we want to be. It’s not just happenstance that we reach our goals, but rather a coupling of the right decisions day by day that help us to obtain what we want the most.
Be fierce about the “vision” for your life, see it in your mind and write out the most aggressive way to get there. Decide what you want out of life, follow your plan to the dream that you see and, step by step, you will begin to see your dreams coming true. It sounds simple and it is, but none of this can be accomplished if you don’t first decide what you want out of life and believe that you can have it with a little sweat equity and some solid planning.
